OBNET, Inc. was established in 1993 as a physician-owned network including general surgery, colorectal surgery, vascular surgery and plastic surgery. The network was designed to support the efforts of these surgeons to provide high quality care to their patients in a changing health care marketplace. OBNET does so by providing a structure through which the surgeons contract with managed care plans to assume responsibility for provision of surgical services and then manage the delivery of those service with the greatest possible quality and cost effectiveness.
While managed care contracting was the primary motivation behind the establishment of OBNET, a broader range of services has been developed to assist its member practices in controlling and reducing practice costs while enhancing the ability of their physicians to deliver the highest possible quality of care. These services include continuing medical education, risk management and joint purchasing.
Currently, OBNET consists of 40 member practices in the greater Atlanta area with 119 physicians. Member practices operate a total of 72 offices located throughout metropolitan Atlanta. Member physicians have active staff privileges at 39 area hospitals along with a number of freestanding ambulatory surgery facilities.
